Hibiscus gives Viking Blod (meaning blood) its characteristic reddish color, evocative of the blood Vikings spilled in their fierce battles, hence the name. However, this mead is completely harmless, with a sweet, floral taste.
Dansk Mjod has combined their traditional mead with dried hibiscus and ginger to make Viking Blod, thus giving it a distinctive color as well as a spicy, aromatic and floral taste. Viking Blod is a little like a good madeira.
